CJ-2A Buildup Part 3 – The L134 “Go-Devil”

now it’s really starting to look like a Jeep again–which is good seeing as how the trip is getting closer by the day, and we’re starting to really feel the pressure.

back around Christmas time, i pulled apart the old flathead L-134 motor that was in my barn and took it down to work to rebuild it.

well, a couple of months later the motor is completely rebuilt inside and out. bored, new pistons, valves, milled the head, new valve seats, turned the crank, and had the block shot-peened so it’s spotless.

here’s the fresh motor is the back of my CJ-5 the day i drove it home:

now it was on to dropping the motor on the freshly painted frame and doing the final assemblty of the motor’s accessories.

there it is. the motor is finally in the jeep. now it seems like things are finally taking off with this project… the trip is just that much closer.

the next stage is firing it up… which right now i’ve got it all wired up, radiator on fluids in and everything. the problem is that my starter, which worked fine a few months ago decided not to engage the flywheel. i pulled it apart and it looks like the old Bendix drive is worn out, so i’m on to trying to find another bendix drive… haha if you have one or know of one let me know!

more to come soon…
