(page 7) Orange Blossom Special

the end of this build is drawing near, both because the date for departure is less than 45 days away, and the rate of progress is stepping up. evan’s jeep has a whole mess of parts just waiting, and now that he’s finished his body work everything is really going together quick. (i just got back into town and have not actually seen the red paint on his 2a but it’s suppose to be real nice)

we are making a push to make it to the local car show in downtown leesburg, va on the 7th of june. (stop by if you can) my jeep looks the part, now all i have to do is stop being useless and rig up an accellerator linkage and i’ll be in business…and a few brakelines of course.

the hat channel went in and bodymounts drilled with the help of this new step saw i picked up at home depot. if you can get by it’s $33 price tage (just for the bit) it’s a speedy job that combines about 9 different drill bits and is a life saver when it comes to sheetmetal work.

the home made hat channel (thanks bob) seems to be doing the job just right. the floor pans feel every bit as sturdy at a factory orignial. and they resemble the real thing to boot. i even got to tie it into the side steps and those things i can throw a foot on with all my weight and  hope into the driver’s seat with confidence..if i had a seat in there. that’s next.

finially we did get the finial coat of Alice Chalmers orange on the body, color sanded and painted again, and for an outdoor first time paint job i couldn’t be happier.

there are probably nicer paint jobs out there, but not one that cost 26 dollars!

it’s definetly orange. here are some pictures of at long last the willys logo getting painted on in flat black, that’s me pretending i’m good at pinstriping/painting with a brush….but not too bad for testors.

hopefully the next update will be this thing driving around at the car show. seeya later
