– About Us and the Trip –

Back in December of 2007, we (Paul and Evan) came up with the hairbrained idea of trying to do 2 complete frame-off restoration/builds on two 1948 Willys CJ-2A Jeeps with the intent of driving them from coast to coast on July 15th of 2008–just over 6 months later. Not really knowing how much work was really going to be involved, we started tearing them apart.

Well, just over 6 months later we’ve almost got them completed after many a long night of turning wrenches, and we’re readying to embark on the coast to coast trip.

This website documents the restorations of both these Jeeps, and the day-by-day account of the trip–beginning on July 15.

It looks like the route will carry you through Kansas City. If you need a place to bed down for the night, I am in Lee’s Summit just off of I-470.

Sounds like you all are in for an exciting adventure. I had the same idea a while back to drive my 1990 YJ to Calif and back. I grew up in Leesburg and am a graduate of Loudoun County. From your directions, looks like your headed down 81 south to 64 West? I might see if I can caravan along with ya for a few miles. I also have a 68 CJ-5 but its not up to the LONG distance just yet. Good luck to ya’ll. A military trailer would make a great addition for extra gear and tools that might come in handy. Good luck to ya, will be watchn for ya’ll. BEN

  6. Ben Wood,

double check the route link off our site i don’t think we are going anywhere near 64west. we are mainlly taking rt 50 out so let me know where you are and we can connect on that.

    thanks
    Paul

This looks like truly excellent opportunity for you two and your beautifully resorted rides! One thing… since sponsorship matters, not sure I’d pose in those pics wearing that orange “Nike” shirt unless they’re ready to pony up! Really, best of success, and safe travels! Bill.

My bad, I had pulled up a map from somewhere that had you all coming down 81 to 64 west bound. I see the new route your headed through WVA. Iv gone that way up RT 50 through Romney to Davis for skiing. Going to be a HAUL in a willys. How far do you all plan to drive in a day? Good luck. Ben

  9. i think we can put away close to 300 miles at the most..some days more some less. once we get into the plains i thinks it’s doable for the bigger milage. probably be breaking down the day into a morning drive and an evening to avoid the hottest parts of the day.

  10. you’re gonna have a helluva time on that leg over the Sierras – really windy and steep. But, If you have to go that way, it’d be worth it to veer north just to see Lake Tahoe.

    apart from that,

I’ll put you guys up for the night in the new (very nice) hotel here on base if you want. You’ll be going right past the base, probably within 3 miles. It’s located in Vacaville CA, 60 miles from San Fran. More than welcome.

Sounds like a plan, I found the OTHER map I was lookin at, its on the front page of your site at the bottom. View our route, not the quick link on the side. Good luck
